Australia need new people in charge, says Shane Warne
Spin legend Shane Warne believes that Australian cricket needs some new people who are not only passionate about the game but also understand the game too. He also felt that every member concerned with the Australian cricket needs to take responsibility for their team’s performance.
Australia, as a cricketing nation, has faced a lot of heat over the past couple of weeks. Ever since the ball-tampering saga broke out, there have been opinions from various people about how Australia needs to go about their things. Cricket Australia was severe with its punishment on the players who were involved in the ball-tampering scandal as Cameron Bancroft, who was caught on camera using a sandpaper on the ball, has been handed a nine-month suspension while Steve Smith and David Warner have been banned for one year. In the aftermath of the controversy, head coach Darren Lehmann also stepped down from his post.
After the trio of players were sent back home ahead of the fourth Test, Tim Paine was named the captain. Thus, there will be a lot of changes and there is no clarity if Paine will continue to lead the lead. Shane Warne feels Australia have the opportunity to come back to the top once again.
“Australia have a lot of questions to answer and I believe heads must roll on and off the field. Australia need new people who are passionate about the game in charge, but understand the game. Australia can be a force again, but need the right people involved. There is a huge opportunity now for players and people to be leaders. All positions are in jeopardy and need to be looked at, heads must roll,” Shane Warne said, as reported by News18.
With so much going around, the cricket administrators in Australia have also faced the heat. There have been a lot of questions that are in front of them and Cricket Australia’s chief executive James Sutherland has been in the spotlight.
“Every single position on the field, off the field, starting from James Sutherland at the top, Pat Howard who is in charge of cricket excellence, all these people. All these people need to be (held accountable), saying 'right — are they good enough for that position? Who else have we got to take their position?’” Warne said.
