VIDEO | Hardik Pandya celebrates wildly after MS Dhoni's dismissal
The reaction of Hardik Pandya after the Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s wicket showed why his wicket is one of the most prized wickets in T20 cricket. The all-rounder celebrated wildly by tapping on the ground, very similar to how Sreesanth did in the 2007 T20 World Cup after dismissing Matthew Hayden.
There has been a lot of debate of late over the celebration of bowlers after claiming a wicket with Kagiso Rabada being in the spotlight for his wild celebrations in international cricket. Even in IPL, bowlers have been giving send-offs and have been reprimanded for their behaviour. In yesterday’s game between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders, young fast bowlers Shivam Mavi (of KKR) and Avesh Khan (of DD) were reprimanded for giving send-offs after picking up a wicket. It was a Level 1 breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.
In today’s game between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) after the visitors won the toss and asked CSK to bat. Despite losing Shane Watson early, CSK were on course for a big score as Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina shared a very good 71-run partnership
MS Dhoni had come in after the fall of Rayudu’s early and found his rhythm late after he struck a few lusty blows, looking set to finish off the innings once again. But, as fate would have it, he was dismissed on the first ball of the 18th over as he hit a full toss wide outside off-stump straight to deep cover. However, although it was McClenaghan who picked up the wicket, it was Hardik Pandya who celebrated quite wildly.
As soon as the catch was taken, Pandya rushed to McClenaghan and tapped on the ground. That celebration was similar to how Sreesanth had celebrated after dismissing Matthew Hayden in the 2007 T20 World Cup semi-final. While Pandya's emotion after Dhoni's wicket was understandable to some, Dhoni fans will definitely not take it lightly.
