BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary has stated that the Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai has failed completely in executing the Supreme Court-mandated Lodha Committee reforms. The office-bearers, Choudhary and treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhry, have been sidelined by the CoA.

Choudhary was not in two-minds while attacking Rai after the COA described the BCCI office-bearers as obstructionists and spoke ill of them in a recent interview. Rai’s comments and the comparison of the daily allowance between the players and the office-bearers broke Choudhary’s silence and created a conflict between the two parties.

Speaking of which Choudhary stated that apart from sending emails, Rai did not do anything and was a complete failure in implementing the Lodha reforms.

“After one and a half years I can conclude that Mr. Rai has not done any work apart from sending emails and making appointments in opaque processes. He was mandated to implement the reforms and he has been a complete failure,” Choudhary said in an interview.

The acting secretary further wondered how he changed from being “cooperative” in the fourth Status report to “obstructionist” in the seventh one.

“There was praise for me in the 4th Status report and suddenly in the seventh one it changed completely. Such kind of comments are completely untrue,” he added.

Another point that the former Additional Director General of Police (Jharkhand) found insulting was the comparison of the daily allowance of the players with that of the office-bearers. He mentioned the players getting paid for other things as well and did not like the comparison.

“It is completely unfair to compare our daily allowance with that of the players. They get paid for the match, they have an annual central contract. You can not expect an honorary person to travel somewhere spending money from his own pocket,” he concluded.
