India vs South Africa | Faf du Plessis ruled out of ODI series with fractured finger
Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against India and will not be available for the upcoming T20 series as well due to a finger injury. The in-form South African skipper played a 120-run knock in the first ODI in Durban, but the hosts had to endure a six-wicket loss.
South Africa lost injured AB de Villiers for the first three games of the limited-overs series and their performance took a nosedive in Durban. To add insult to injury, the team now will be dented in the absence of their skipper in the high-profile series. Du Plessis was the knight in the shining armour for South Africa in the opening game and scored a fighting century to propel South Africa to a par score of 269 runs after their middle order crumbled to India's wrist spin.
But now, the skipper will not available for the remainder of the limited-overs series which comprises five One-dayers and three T20Is. During the first ODI, he injured his right index finger and in further treatment, it revealed that he fractured it and will take 3-6 weeks for recovery. It is expected that the player will be fit after a period of rest and rehabilitation for the Test series against Australia starting on March 1 in Durban.
In the place of injured du Plessis, selectors picked Farhaan Behardien along with Multiply Titans wicket-keeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen. Both sides will play the next game on February 4 in Centurion.
