ICC charges Kagiso Rabada with 15% match fees for his sending off gesture to Shikhar Dhawan

Kagiso Rabada and his breaching of ICC’s codes, again and again, can't be stopped. The South African was again caught breaching the ICC’s 2.1.7 code in the 8th over of India’s innings when he waved off to Shikhar Dhawan after dismissing him and also shouted ‘bye’, which could have provoked the batsman to reply with some inappropriate stuff. As his gesture was caught by the match Referee, he has now been charged 15% of his match fees and also received a demerit point taking his total to five now.

The ICC has released a statement saying, “The incident happened in the eighth over of India's innings. Rabada, after dismissing Shikhar Dhawan, "waved at the departing batsman and also made a comment which could have resulted in a reaction from the batsman," and added “As a result, Rabada was booked under article 2.1.7, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”

Rabada had earlier received 3 demerit points while playing against Sri Lanka when he deliberately had a physical contact with Dickwella. He again received a demerit point in a match against England when he used inappropriate language after dismissing Ben Stokes which was followed by a reaction from England all-rounder. His fourth demerit point resulted in the one-match ban due to which he had to miss out on the Test match played at the Trent Bridge.

According to the ICC rules, if a player reaches 8 demerit points in the rolling 24-month period, then there is a chance of him missing two Tests or one Test and two ODIs/T20Is or four ODIs/T20Is, whichever comes first. With 5 demerit points, Rabada is on a verge of receiving a bigger punishment as he reaches the required quota of 8 demerit points.
