Sachin Tendulkar has claimed that Mumbai, which is also his hometown, has always been a frontrunner for providing stars to the Indian team such as Rohit Sharma, Sunil Gavaskar, Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer. The master blaster inaugurated the upcoming Mumbai T20 League, which begins on March 11.

Mumbai has always been the goldmine of Indian cricketers, with numerous talents rising from the city to become stars, over the years. It is also clearly reflected in Mumbai Indians' IPL campaign so far, which is one of the most successful in giving youngsters an opportunity to develop.

Tendulkar, who hails from Mumbai, highlighted the importance of the city when it came to promoting players to the national setup, with the likes of  Rohit Sharma, Sunil Gavaskar, Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer all having their roots firmly from there. The MI franchise also offered opportunities to youngsters with the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, a shining example of the same.

"I firmly believe that something like this (Mumbai T20 League) was needed for Mumbai cricket. Mumbai cricket has always led Indian cricket and the numbers are the biggest proof. I feel happy to be part of this league,"

"Mumbai have won Ranji Trophy for 41 years, you've got terrific history. I still remember as a kid at Shivaji Park" Kamath Memorial club "Paddy sir (Padmakar Shivalkar) would come and bowl to me. He was possibly thrice my age at that time but he would bowl to me. Such things happen in Mumbai.

"It would be nice if youngsters are playing alongside some big names in Mumbai cricket. They will get to learn and that is something that I am looking forward to," Tendulkar said, reported PTI.

The batting legend further went on to highlight that such a T20 tournament is essential for the players who play on a small-scale level in order to support their families and earn a daily livelihood.

"I think today by playing these leagues, even if you don't go and play Ranji Trophy, you can still look after your family. And that is the most important thing for any individual. If you can look after your family, make them feel financially secure and be the backbone of the family, it is the greatest feeling anyone can get," added Tendulkar.
