There are two things certain in life, apart from death and taxes; MS Dhoni getting a DRS call right and inflicting a stumping. That was the reason for Yuzvendra Chahal’s stunned reaction after MS Dhoni failed to collect the ball and whip off the bails with JP Duminy miles out of his crease.

After MS Dhoni scored just his 2nd fifty in his 88th T20I game, it looked like it was going to be his day. However, there were signs that the idea wasn’t necessarily true. In the last over of the Indian innnings, “Captain Cool” was seen losing his temper at Manish Pandey for not paying attention and looking at something in the stands.

With South Africa dominating the game thanks to Heinrich Klaasen's 69 off just 29 balls, India desperately needed a breakthrough. And they got it in 2 overs, with Klaasen and his successor Miller dispatched to the dressing room, leave South Africa reeling at 142/4 and the game finely poised with five overs to go. With India in the ascendency, Chahal, who had been hit for 50 runs in his first three overs, tempted Duminy to come down the track with a flighted delivery but the SA skipper was beaten all ends up by the turn.

However, as the ball took a small deflection of Duminy’s pad, Dhoni failed to collect the ball and the batsmen were able to steal a leg bye. While fans would have been surprised with the Indian wicketkeeper’s miss, Chahal’s reaction was absolute gold. As soon as he realized that he chance was missed, the leggie looked to be in a state of shock and, for a good five seconds, he just stood on the pitch with his hands over his head.

One can easily make the case that with Dhoni behind the stumps, the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowler has been spoilt, but most Indian fans would have had the same reaction to the miss as the Indian leggie.
