IPL 2018 | ICC’s request of rescheduling IPL match during April 22-26 denied by BCCI
A one of a kind request made by the ICC to the BCCI about rescheduling the IPL matches during April 22-26 was denied by the BCCI that would have enabled the members of ICC to watch a game at the Eden Gardens. Kolkata will be hosting ICC’s AGM for the first time from April 22-26.
Kolkata will be hosting ICC’s Annual General Meeting from April 22-26 which is set to coincide with the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League. As the ICC wanted its members to have a privilege of watching a game of KKR on one of the meeting days at the Eden Gardens, they requested the BCCI to reschedule the matches. However, that was denied by the BCCI as it did not want to disorganize its released schedule.
"Yes, there was a specific request from ICC as they wanted its various member delegates to watch an IPL game. However between April 22 and 26, there are no home games of KKR at the Eden Gardens," a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
As KKR will not play any home games between April 16 and May 7, the BCCI official stated that it would be difficult to reschedule various matches.
"If we have to reschedule it, the entire itinerary would be in a disarray. So we told them that it's not possible to have an IPL match rescheduled."
While representatives from Test-playing nations are supposed to take part in the conference, PCB chairman Najam Sethi’s attendance is in doldrums as it has been reported that he might not be given the Indian visa due to the volatile situations along the Pakistan border.
"If Sethi doesn't get the visa, it might well be an indicator of the chances of Pakistan team procuring visa during the Asia Cup in September," the official added.
