IPL 2018 | Deepak Chahar eager to team up with MS Dhoni at CSK
Rajasthan pacer Deepak Chahar has expressed his desire to play for CSK in the upcoming edition of the IPL to continue his "great learning experience from Dhoni". He has also added that his Syed Mushtaq Ali performance will help him get a good contract at the auction scheduled on January 27 and 28.
25-year old Deepak Chahar was part of the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise last year along with keeper MS Dhoni. The young lad seemed to be awestruck by Dhoni’s work ethic and his behavior towards the junior players and Chahar hopes to reunite with the Ranchi-born batsman at CSK.
"It was a great learning experience from Dhoni. I not only shared the dressing room but his room as well -- as anyone could walk into his room which remained open 24 hours.
"He takes utmost care of the juniors, doesn't hesitate to join us on the dinner table. It helps the juniors so that they don't develop a complex. I will look to play with him again," Chahar said in an interview with India TV after their domestic T20 match against Punjab at Eden Gardens.
Chahar managed to get 12 wickets from four matches that included a career-best 5/15 in the Super League stage as Rajasthan are set to make their maiden final appearance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Chahar was conscious about the fact that his performances in the tournament were closely monitored by IPL scouts. The 25-year-old has a base price of Rs 20 lakh and his name will be auctioned along with that of 577 other players at the IPL auction this weekend.
"It will definitely help. Franchises keep a close watch on the Mushtaq Ali as it's the same format. Obviously, you will put in that extra effort knowing that it's a day before the auction," the medium-pacer said.
Rajasthan will take on the star-studded Delhi in the final at Eden Gardens tomorrow as it will resemble a David versus Goliath type of scenario.
Delhi wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who has been retained by Delhi Daredevils for this edition of IPL said, "I'm very excited. I'm already retained so I don't have to think about the auction. My main aim is to keep performing and do well in every match."
