Australian Cricketer Glenn Maxwell has recently been in the news for not reporting the Anti-corruption unit (ACU) about his inebriated stunt during the Indian Premier League last year (2017). But, the Australian has defended himself by stating that he has always reported about such untoward things.

According to a Mumbai Mirror, Maxwell did not take the responsibility of informing the International Cricket Council about a certain incident in Rajkot on the eve of the match between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)and Gujarat Lions during IPL 2017. It further stated that the incident had put his life in danger.

Maxwell, who was a part of KXIP during that season, left his team hotel without informing the team manager, local liaison officer for a party hosted by the promoters of Gujarat Lions at a resort. A visibly drunk Maxwell took a decision of cycling his way back to the team hotel after the party was over. A paper quoted an unnamed BCCI official throwing light on Maxwell’s condition and the potential controversial scenario.

“We chose to keep quiet about the whole situation (as to avoid a controversy). So we do not know what kind of information Maxwell gave to the ACU. He did not even inform his team manager or the integrity officer. Ideally, he should have gone with the security cover. But, he chose not to do so and came back in a drunken state,” stated the BCCI official.
