Gary Kirsten, the first professional coach to guide India to a World Cup win in 2011, believes that MS Dhoni has taken his batting standards back to his old incredible days. The current RCB coach has also reckoned that the way IPL has taken care of young Indian talents so far, is just phenomenal.

Gary Kirsten, who is currently in India as Royal Challengers Bangalore's coaching staff, has been highly impressed with Dhoni’s batting in IPL. Dhoni, who has been leading the comeback  Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018, has scored 360 runs from 10 matches. Lauding his batting this season, Kirsten opined that the former Indian captain has gone back to his old incredible days and his hunger for runs is second to none.

“He just keeps producing and his hunger for performance is amazing. I don't think he has reinvented anything, he has just got back at his incredible consistent best,” said Kirsten in an exclusive chat with NDTV.

It has been almost eight years since the MSD-led India had lifted the coveted World Cup trophy at the jam-packed Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. And India's then coach has revealed that the moment has still been alive in his mind and he would love to sit back and relive them all over again. He was still found cherishing the moment of being carried on the shoulders of the victorious Indian Cricket Team.

“I have amazing memories and will cherish all the friendships built in that time as well. We became a family,” said Kirsten.

IPL this year has seen the likes of Shivam Mavi, Shubman Gill, and Prithvi Shaw being fast-tracked from the U-19 World Cup winning team, and Kirsten believes that the raw talents in India are just phenomenal with the league working as a catalyst for them to exhibit their skills.

“The talent in India is just incredible and I have been excited to see all the players come through. That is what the IPL is all about really. If you look at all the young players that have used the IPL as a launching pad for their careers, it is just amazing. Great platform for any young player to showcase skills and develop their games. They get to play and chat with the best players in the game, how that cannot benefit them,” he added.

The South African is coming up with a new coaching academy in India and has been busy organizing camps in different parts of the country at the moment. When asked whether they would be focussing on batsmen or bowlers, Kirsten replied that they are going to focus in all aspects of the game and designed the programs according to the age and skill wise.

“We will be focusing on all aspects of the game and will have programs designed around each age group and skill level as well. We want to provide as best a platform as possible to help players get to another level,” concluded the 2011 world-cup winning coach.
