Shane Watson heaped praise on CSK skipper MS Dhoni's intuition in the game and ability to come up with strategies at crucial times, crediting him for him regaining the form in IPL this season. Watson also stated that it was the players' experienced that helped CSK go to the playoffs.
Dhoni has easily been one of the most successful skippers in IPL since its inception. While he has led CSK to the playoffs in all the past eight seasons, his two seasons with Rising Pune Supergiants saw the side ending one season as runners-up as well. And Australian all-rounder Watson, who has scored 438 runs and claimed eight wickets in IPL this season, has credited Dhoni for his return to form.
With CSK in the playoffs, Watson has a chance to win one more IPL title, after having won his first one in the inaugural season with Rajasthan Royals. And he sounded keen on contributing more for the team in the playoffs.
“I’m very fortunate to have an opportunity at CSK like I have, to be able to open the batting throughout the tournament, to be able to bowl certain overs whenever MS (Dhoni) needs me,” said Watson, quoted cricket.com.au.
“To be there for MS but also for my selfish point of view to be able to see how his mind works and how incredibly he reads the game, to be able to ask those questions has been great as well,” he added.
Though the CSK unit has featured many players above the age of 30 in their starting eleven, it has been this experience that has fueled CSK's journey to the playoffs in the IPL 2018, according to Watson.
“There’s no doubt that experience in T20 tournaments and cricket, in general, can really come through especially in pressure situations,” the 36-year-old said.
Watson went on to praise Dhoni's sensibility and stated that Dhoni's feel of the game and intuitions are right up there with some of the top players who have played alongside Watson.
“Just his feel and intuition for the game, I’ve experienced that with a few incredible players I’ve played with, MS is certainly right up there. “The feel that he has for the game, what a batsman is going to do, what a bowler should do, as you can see when he bats as well, nine times out of 10 he chases the runs down as well," he added.
