Former Indian players Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan have come to support of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is facing the ire of social media users for his controversial ‘leave India’ comment. Kohli had recorded the comment at the release of his ‘Virat Kohli Official app’ on Monday.

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has found some much-needed support from his former teammates Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan as a recent comment from Kohli has drawn criticism from all quarters. In reply to a comment made by one of his official app users Virat had asked the person to leave the country if he prefers foreign batsmen to the Indian.

“Okay, I don’t think you should live in India then...you should go and live somewhere else, no? Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don’t mind you not liking me but I don’t think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right,” Kohli said in the video.

Sehwag toned down the matter stating that it was the media which has blown the comments made by Indian skipper out of proportion.

“Fans have the right to choose their favourite players and so do the players. Only the media blows up incidents like these and creates controversies,” Sehwag said.

Whereas former Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan said that being a democratic country India provides everyone equal rights and that also included the Indian skipper and he has the right to speak his mind.

“Fans and Virat have equal freedom of speech. India is a democratic country and everybody has freedom of speech. Even the clarification Virat gave it came because he wanted to clearly state his feelings on the matter,” Zaheer told AajTak.

After facing a lot of flak for his comments Kohli later clarified his intentions and also explained why he made such comments.

“I guess trolling isn’t for me guys, I’ll stick to getting trolled! I spoke about how “these Indians” was mentioned in the comment and that’s all. I’m all for freedom of choice. Keep it light guys and enjoy the festive season. Love and peace to all,” Kohli tweeted.
