India vs Windies | We failed to pick Kuldeep Yadav, reveals Denesh Ramdin
Windies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin has stated that the Windies batsmen have not been able to pick the Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav who has been an outstanding performer for India in the ongoing T20I series. India have already taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three match T20I series.
Kuldeep Yadav has been outstanding for India against the Windies in the ongoing T20 series picking five wickets in two matches. The tour of India for the Windies has not been something to brag about as after getting swept in the Test series they lost the ODI series 3-1. On the whole tour, they have won only one match which they won in the ODI series.
"Guys haven't been able to pick him, and basically he was been one of the threats in the middle overs and unfortunately we couldn't push on," Ramdin said.
The first match in the T20 series saw a batting collapse of the West Indian batting and Kuldeep Yadav was the wrecker-in-chief bagging three middle order wickets.
"We played our first game at Eden Gardens, where we were expecting to do well. But we didn't adapt as well as we should. We didn't string any partnerships either. T20 banks on momentum and partnerships, and we couldn't do that," he said.
"But Hope and Hetmyer have had success, to transfer themselves from 50-over mindset to T20 cricket. They have tried their best, and one needs 10-12 balls to get a start, but they haven't capitalised. A lot of T20 cricket is about momentum and we haven't been able to build on it,” he added.
Ramdin shifted the focus to the current scenario of the West Indian cricket. He stated that the best West Indian players are in demand all over the world and so to make a strong team at the moment is difficult for the West Indies Cricket.
"It's difficult to build a team given the current scenario. When you look at our T20 players they are in demand all over the world, so yes, we are suffering in that aspect. Our senior players did not turn up for the tour, and that's one of the reasons why we are 2-0 down in this series”.
The payments issue between the Windies Board and its players has been a long-term issue now which has made relations between both the sides cold.
"It's all about having food on the table. The players are good enough to be taken by a team in another part of the world, then I can't stop a player who's out there to improve."
India and Windies will play their final T20 tomorrow at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. The visitors will have their pride at stake whereas the hosts would look to test their bench strength before the upcoming Australia tour.
“There's a system in place. The wickets in WI are similar to India, slow and turning. On this wicket, with the square boundaries a bit bigger, it's important our spinners bowl better tomorrow. On this wicket it is very important that we bowl the right lengths."
