After rehabilitating completely from the injury, Usman Khawaja has expressed that he can bat at whatever position the captain and the team management want him to bat. Khawaja opened the innings for the Aussies in the first Test match of the series against Pakistan in the UAE last month.

Khawaja is now completely fit and back in the Australian squad for the upcoming home Test series against India starting from December 6 in Adelaide. He had to stay away from cricket after the first Test against Pakistan because of a meniscal tear that which needed surgery. Victoria opener Marcus Harris has also got a call-up after his brilliant batting show in the Sheffield Shield as he is the second highest run-scorer in Australia’s premier domestic competition. Aaron Finch has done well as an opener in the longest format after he was given the chance to open the innings in the UAE in Khawaja’s absence and for that, Khawaja is ready to bat at any position.

"I'm happy to bat wherever. I've said that to Painey. He (Harris) is obviously an opener. I expect him to open," Khawaja said, reported cricbuzz.com.

After recovering completely from the injury, Khawaja is spending hours to train properly and get ready for the four-match Test series. He will play for Queensland against Victoria in the upcoming round of Sheffield Shield, starting from November 27. The 31-year-old was given another option of playing against the touring Indian side in a warm-up match from November 29, but he decided to represent the domestic team.

"I'm fine right now. It's just about playing some cricket now. It's feeling alright at training. I've done as much as I can at training so hopefully, fingers crossed, it keeps going well,” the Aussie left-hander said.

"I've had a pretty high workload the last two weeks; batted, ran, fielded. Everything is going well thus far. I've had a few opportunities to possibly play other games that are going on this week but I really wanted to play Shield cricket. I want to play for my state.”
