India vs Australia | Drawn series is a fair reflection of how the teams performed, asserts Virat Kohli
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has stated that the drawn T20I series between India and Australia reflects exactly how the series played out and the 1-1 scoreline exactly represents how India and Australia performed. India levelled the T20 series against the hosts Australia after they won the third T20I.
India managed to draw the T20I series against Australia by winning the third T20I after they lost the first match and the second match was washed out by rain. The series ended in a draw with the scoreline of 1-1 which the Indian skipper stated was a fair reflection of how the series panned out.
“A level series is a fair reflection of how the teams have played,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
In the third T20I, Australia got off to a good start with both the openers in D’Archy Short and Aaron Finch scoring some handy runs for the hosts. But soon Indian spinners managed to tighten the innings even as Krunal Pandya managed to pick four wickets.
“Overall, skill-wise, we were better on the day than Australia. With the ball, we were more professional today. I thought it was a 180 wicket.”
Indian captain Kohli also praised his openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, saying if they get going then India wins the match easily. In the third T20 both the openers played handy innings taking the score to 67 runs in the powerplay. Dhawan scored 41 runs off 23 balls while his partner Sharma played a cameo of 23 in 16 balls.
“When our openers get into the zone they’re difficult to stop. Things become pretty easy when those two guys (Rohit and Shikhar) do the job for us,” Kohli said.
The opposition captain Aaron Finch said that once the Indian team got off to a flyer it was very difficult to stop them and also commended the Indian opening combination. He also had some words of praise for his team.
“India batted extremely well in the power play. It’s always tough to bring it back from 1/67. The way that we fought was brilliant. Rohit and Dhawan are totally different styles of batsmen which is tough for bowlers. That’s why they’ve been such a good opening combination.”
After concluding the T20 series both the teams will now play four matches in the longest format of the game starting from the first match on December 6 in Adelaide.
“Still fair bit of work to do but we’re going in the right direction which is nice. Feeling good for the Tests. Will get down to Brisbane and prepare for 5-6 days.”
