VIDEO | With Prithvi at 99, running mix-up brings out a host of emotions in the dressing room
Prithvi Shaw had a terrific beginning and scored the second fastest century by an Indian on his Test debut. When he was on 98, he decided to pick a couple, but Cheteshwar Pujara had almost ruined the moment with a run-out chance that brought out an entire range of emotions in the dressing room.
Shaw became the fourth youngest specialist batsman to make his Test debut for India and what an induction it was! He scythed through the Windies bowlers and scored at a pace that would make anyone believe that he had been a regular in the team for far too long. Such was his fluency that bowlers seemed tired in front of him and he found runs easy to come by.
While many players become a bit nervous and become more watchful after reaching the 90-run mark, Shaw was in cruise mode and didn’t stop the juggernaut. Even when he was on 98, he found a two-run opportunity on a Devendra Bishoo delivery and started running for the same. But, upon realising that the ball was on the hand of the fielder at the square-leg region, he stopped Pujara who was on his way for the second run from running for the same.
The dressing room, by then, was already ecstatic for Shaw and started applauding, thinking that he completed his century. However, Pujara was in the danger of being run-out and he only managed to reach safely at the time Shane Dowrich whipped off the bails. That had, however, brought a host of emotions from the Indian players in the dressing room.
