South African wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock, who had been bought by RCB in last season's mega auction, has been traded to Mumbai Indian as IPL'S first trade of 2019 before the auction takes place mid-December. MI will pay de Kock the same salary as RCB had in the last edition of the IPL.

Last year, in the 2018 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore had acquired the services of de Kock for INR 2.8 crore. However, after an average season for the Bengaluru team, RCB have traded the star player to Mumbai Indians at the same price. However, in order to offset the deal, Mumbai have had to release Bangladesh right-arm pace Mustafizur Rahman at INR 2.2 crore, and Sri Lankan off-spinner Akila Dananjaya at INR 50 lakh.

Another surprising aspect of the deal is the fact that Mumbai Indians already have two wicket-keepers, Ishan Kishan and Aditya Tare, in their squad which means that they might ask de Kock to operate as a specialist batsman.

The South African batsman has already established himself as one of the better batsmen in the league having played for Delhi Daredevils, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past. In the 34 matches he has played in the IPL, de Kock has scored 927 runs at an average rate of 28.09 and a strike rate of 130 with a century and six fifties.

According to the reports, the last date for retentions and release is November 15, and the franchises are working on the different permutations and combinations before the auctions. A purse of INR 3 crore will available to the teams in addition to the remaining balance after last year’s auction.
