IPL 2019 | I just asked Ashwin if it was right to ‘mankad’ me, reveals Jos Buttler
Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler revealed that he did in fact question KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin if the latter’s decision to ‘mankad’ him was an appropriate action. The English batsman further admitted that England are the ‘favorites’ to win the upcoming 2019 ICC ODI World Cup on home soil.
Kings XI Punjab pulled off a narrow win in their opening encounter of the 2019 season against Rajasthan Royals last month. One of the highlights of the game was the dismissal of RR opener Jos Buttler at the hands of KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin’s ‘mankad’ dismissal of the English batsman drew a lot of mixed reviews from critics and fans from all across the globe.
Buttler, who was an integral part of the Rajasthan team since last season, was left speechless after the incident and was evidently disappointed at Ashwin’s behaviour. In a recent interview with TOI, Buttler revealed that he did question the India spinner about whether or not it was the right thing to do.
"I was disappointed. It doesn't happen often in cricket, but when it does it actually is disappointing. Unfortunately, I have got out in a similar fashion before as well, so I will make sure it doesn't happen again.
"I just asked him if he really wishes to play the game that way. Whether he thought it was the right thing to do. And he obviously thought it was, in his opinion. It is not for me to say. But it's all done now and I have moved on," Buttler said in the interview with TOI.
Buttler is also most likely to be included in England’s squad for the upcoming 2019 ICC ODI World Cup which will be held in England & Wales. The wicket-keeper admitted that England will enter the tournament as ‘favorites’ but Australia and India will also be in the running to lift the world cup.
"We are one of the favourites. Traditionally, in World Cup, India and Australia are up there as well. We are playing some really good cricket. But World Cup tournaments, knockout tournaments are always high-pressure situations. With so many good players from around the world and very strong teams participating, being a favourite does not really count too much.
"Since the time more England players have started playing in the IPL, selectors have been taking note of the performance in the league. Through IPL, many players have got a chance to play in the England Test team. Coming here and playing in the biggest tournament in the world and win against the best players in this high-pressure environment, you also gain a lot of confidence," Buttler added.
