Reports | Mike Hesson turns down Pakistan coach job
Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson, who had applied for the role of the India head coach, has reportedly turned down the offer to coach team Pakistan. It is also understood that Hesson turned down the role to coach Bangladesh, after which they appointed South African Russell Domingo.
According to a report by stuff.co.nz, it is understood that Mike Hesson wasn't keen on handling the rigours of international cricket in the forthcoming year, hence prompting him to turn down the coaching roles of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The site also reported that Hesson considered the India coaching role as an exception, with it being the most sought after and the biggest coaching job in international cricket.
Earlier, team India announced that incumbent Ravi Shastri would continue as head coach of the team, beating the likes of Hesson, Tom Moody and Robin Singh to the prestigious role. Former Kiwi coach Hesson also quit as the head coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab a few weeks ago, but now is expected to return in an advisory or an assistant coaching role for a different IPL franchise.
In his tenure, Hesson led New Zealand to their first-ever World Cup final, where they lost to co-hosts Australia. Post his run as a coach, the Kiwi has been featuring regularly as a commentator, notably for Sky Sports in the UK and Star Sports in India.
