Chief selector MSK Prasad reckons that Jonty Rhodes was too big of a name to be appointed as part of the support staff in India A or the NCA. Prasad heaped praise on R Sridhar who was reappointed as fielding coach of the Indian national team based on positive progress in the last two years.

Jonty Rhodes was overlooked for the position of fielding coach of the Indian team after the BCCI selection committee led by MSK Prasad came to a decision following the completion of interviews. The Indian body opted to stick with the reliable R Sridhar keeping in mind the massive progress the Indian team has made under his guidance in recent years.

Prasad was further quoted saying that Rhodes was too big of a name to be offered a job in the support staff at the India A and NCA level.

“We don’t see Jonty fitting in there [choice Nos 2 and 3], because those roles are more for India A level and NCA,” Prasad was quoted as saying by Scroll.in.

Prasad, who represented India in six Test matches and 17 ODIs, heaped praise on R Sridhar whom he labelled as one of the best fielding coaches in the world.

“We are convinced with skill sets of Sridhar. He is one of the best fielding coaches in the world today.

“Unfortunately in the World Cup, may be he would not have got the desired result as there were two three-keepers in the side the combinations were like that. He has transformed this side into a wonderful fielding unit. So, there is no second thought with regard to Sridhar,” Prasad added.
