AUS vs PAK | David Warner might get another shot to reach 400, reckons Brian Lara

Brian Lara has stated that David Warner will get more chances to reach 400 in his career and break his record of 400 runs. Warner smashed an unbeaten 335 against Pakistan in the second Test in Adelaide and skipper Tim Paine had to declare keeping in mind the weather forecast for the next days.

Brian Lara himself was known to play marathon innings and had scored 400 against England which till date remains the highest score ever in International Test cricket. When Warner reached 335 and the way he was timing the ball, everyone expected him to go for the record of 400 but Tim Paine had to declare as the weather forecast for the next day was not good which meant that Australia had to get some over in to win the match and gain vital points in the ICC Test Championship.

While a few eyebrows were raised at the decision to declare, Warner looked seemingly satisfied with his innings and was happy to walk off to a standing ovation from the entire Adelaide crowd, marking his return to Australia in grand style with two hundreds in two Tests.

"It would have been amazing to walk out there (as Sobers did). Records are made to be broken. It’s great when they are broken by attacking players. Entertainers. Being in Adelaide I would have got an opportunity to if not walk out at least meet him (Warner) at this opportune time," Lara told News Corp.

However, Lara believes that Warner might still get more chances to break his record if he keeps this consistency and form going and he feels that it is the attacking brand of cricket that Warner plays is what makes him dangerous.

"I still think Warner may have time to do it in his career. I know he is not a spring chicken but as soon as you get that 300 you know how to get 400. He may get another shot at it," Lara reckoned.

"He is a very attacking player and that is the sort of player who can always set you up for a win. I know you need stabilizers but you also need one or two players like David Warner and Sir Vivian Richards who can take the game with their bats," he further added.

Lara at first thought that the declaration by Australia could have been delayed a bit and Warner could have been given some time to reach 400 but as things panned out with bad weather ending the third day's play abruptly, he realized that declaration was the right decision.

"It was a great innings. I can see that Australia winning the match was the major thing and the weather was a big factor but I would have loved to have seen Australia go for it. Being here I would have loved to see it. Even if they say 'hey David, you have got 12 overs, see if you could do it by tea time' It would have been great," Lara stated.

"They were justified by picking up six wickets last night and you can see today things are slower so the declaration came at the right time," he concluded.
