West Indies ODI skipper Kieron Pollard claims that there is a lot of talent in West Indies to take them back to the top and he feels that consistent opportunities will help them grow. Pollard was also extremely happy with the knock Hetmyer played as his brilliant hundred helped West Indies win.

West Indies comfortably chased down the target of 289 against India in the first ODI thanks to hundreds from Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer. Hetmyer was particularly impressive as his high strike-rate meant that Hope got the time to settle in and play his natural game, holding one end of the batting line-up. Kieron Pollard was extremely happy with the kind of knock Hetmyer played and the manner in which he went about his innings.

"We know the talent that he has. He has been struggling a bit in the last 9 months and he has been under a lot of pressure. We just want to make him understand about his role in the side," Pollard said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

"He has been in the team from the last 18 months so he has a taste of international cricket. As management we are very happy about his knock," he further added.

Sheldon Cottrell has been in some fine form with the ball on this tour to India as after impressing in T20Is, he began the ODI series with a bang, picking up quick wickets of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli which put India on the back foot.

"Cottrell has a magnificent last 18 months. With experience comes confidence and Cottrell is bowling superbly for us," Pollard stated.

Under Pollard's leadership, West Indies seem to be going in the right direction and with the wealth of experience that he has, youngsters, will definitely get benefited. Pollard believes that it is all about giving adequate opportunities to the youngsters for them to showcase their talent.

"We have talent in the Caribbean, we need to give an opportunity to the players," Pollard concluded.
