VIDEO | Kasun Rajitha left to blame his own boot as Aiden Markram effects “one of the best run-outs ever”

Cricket is a funny game and more often than not, a batsman’s dismissal brings this side of the sport to the fore. When Kasun Rajitha was run out yesterday, he hardly imagined that as his boot deflected an off-side shot to the on-side, would see Aiden Markram effecting a wonderful run-out.

It was one of those instances yesterday when the luck lady just rejected any association with Rajitha. His deliveries had been beating the outside edge of the South Africans more than any other Sri Lankan bowlers but he ended up as one of the most expensive bowlers of the innings. With the bat, his luck took a disastrous turn when the boot came on the way to dismiss him for 12.

In the 56th over of the Lankan innings, Kagiso Rabada bowled a short of the length delivery to which Rajitha tried to tuck away. However, it hit his boot and deflected straight to short leg when it actually would have gone to his right. The momentum of the shot took Rajitha out of his crease and he was very much interested in running a single as well.

However, the ball was very well captured by Aiden Markram, who was fielding at forward short leg. Markram had his eyes fixed on the stumps and didn’t waste any time before directly targeting the stumps. Such was the authoritativeness with which he targeted it that it gave Rajitha literally no time to think about a return. Can easily be branded as one of the best ever run-outs.
