Virat Kohli revealed his obsession with winning a series in tough conditions as India gear up to face Australia in the series finale at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which will be played on January 3. Kohli also spoke about the injury sustained by veteran Ravichandran Ashwin during the Adelaide Test.

India will enter the final match of the four-match Test series against Australia as the favourites after they registered a resounding 137-run victory in the third Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. And Virat Kohli & Co. would back themselves to pull off the historic series win for the first time on the Australian soil.

Kohli, who has come under severe criticism for his aggressive behaviour, on the pitch during the ongoing series, sounded adamant as he stated that the squad is ‘obsessed’ with winning and will head into the series finale with the same mindset.

"I can guarantee everyone is obsessed about winning in very difficult conditions. It has to be an obsession. When you’re obsessed about playing good quality cricket and achieving excellence then I don’t think as a team you want to stop at two games.

"You want to finish the series well and get together and enjoy it afterwards as a team. I’m very sure and I’ve seen in the change room the guys are very optimistic … and very, very focused," Kohli said in a pre-match press conference, reported The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Indian captain also claimed that the recent win at the MCG solidified the belief in the team dressing room. Four years ago at the New Year’s Test, Kohli had assumed Indian captaincy for the first time after MS Dhoni’s surprise retirement from the longer format. The match ended in a draw but Kohli scored a brilliant 147 in the first innings to assert his authority as skipper.

"Eventually you start getting results and you start believing in yourself. You see guys growing in their confidence levels and that is a beautiful sight to see. I think these victories evolve you as a cricketer.

"It would be a big, big series win not just for me but the whole team purely because this is the place where we started our transition. This is where MS gave up captaincy and we had a totally young side starting at No.6 or seven in the world and we have come back here as the No.1 Test side in the world. We want to be able to take that legacy forward," Kohli added.
