VIDEO | Virat Kohli leads the way to raise money for breast cancer by presenting pink caps to Glen McGrath

Before marrying Glen McGrath, Jane was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997, but was declared cancer-free after treatment and went on to become the mother of two children. She was also instrumental in co-founding the McGrath foundation with her husband in 2005. However, an unfortunate turn of events saw her cancer relapsing in 2006 and she subsequently died in June 2008.

That was one shocker of an incident for Glen, who then decided to raise awareness for breast cancer and with the consent of Cricket Australia and Sydney Cricket Ground, the former tearaway quick helped name the third day of the New Year Test as ‘Pink Day’ so as to raise money to support the placement of breast care nurses across Australia. Cricket goers are encouraged to “wear pink and donate generously”. 

While Virat Kohli added pink stickers to his bats and other cricketing gears since the first day, the entire team handed over their Pink caps to the McGrath family, showcasing their support for the cause. Every cricketer of the team, bench included, shook hands with McGrath’s third wife Sara Leonardi and his son and daughter before handing over the cap to one of the biggest legends of the game.
