ICC World Cup 2019 | Rohit Sharma’s bat swing is as clear as a pendulum, reckons Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar has credited Rohit’s mindset as one of the main reasons behind his staggering consistency with the bat. Rohit’s lazy elegance and incredible bat swing sets him apart from his imminent peers. Tendulkar recollected Rohit’s initial days in competitive cricket and hailed his magnificent talent, especially the bat swing.    

“Long time back, Kiran More who was the selector for U -19, had told me ‘you have to look at this kid named Rohit Sharma. He has got a superb bat swing. Every now and then I’m asked about what is so special about Rohit Sharma and I think it is his bat swing, which is as clear as a pendulum and not many guys have that,” Tendulkar said during a TV show. 

Rohit initially wanted to be a bowler but his coach asked him to focus on batting and the decision turned out to be a masterstroke for Rohit.  

“I have heard he wanted to (be) bowler and then slowly because his coach asked him to focus on batting, he shifted to that and what he has achieved along the way is simply remarkable,” added Tendulkar.

Rohit struggled to make an impact in his intial few years in international cricket and also failed to make it to the 2011 Indian world Cup squad. Tendulkar opines that his changed mindset has a key role to play behind his success with the bat. Rohit currently occupies the second spot on the list of best ODI batsmen.    

“We spoke about how in the initial six years, he (Rohit) wasnt able to do much, but then the last six years have been truly special for him. Even after having so many people criticising you and not appreciating you for your shot selection, he has been successful in transforming his detractors to followers. They love his batting and that has happened only because of his changed mindset,” said Tendulkar.
