Reports | BCCI to wait till October before taking final call on Zimbabwe home series

After being suspended by the country’s sports and recreation board, Zimbabwe were suspended from the ICC with immediate effect as the governing body of the sport decided to freeze the funding to Zimbabwe Cricket, and also declared that representative teams from Zimbabwe will not be allowed to participate in any ICC events while under suspension. That made Zimbabwe's participation in the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier in August and Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier in October highly unlikely.

However, the decision has also become a cause of concern for the BCCI who are to host Zimbabwe for three T20s in Guwahati on January 5, Indore on January 7 and Pune on January 10. But a BCCI official came out to state that they are not really thinking of any back-up plan and will wait for the ICC quarterly meeting on October 16.

"Right now, we are not really thinking of any back-up plan. We will wait for the ICC quarterly meeting on October 16. Since they have been given three months to get their house in order, it is only prudent that we wait," a senior BCCI official privy to the developments in ICC told PTI on Friday. 

The official, however, agreed that situation could be a bit different if ZC fails to get a clearance from the ICC in October and in that case, the BCCI will check if Afghanistan, Sri Lanka or West Indies are available for a short tour.

"Yes, that's our dedicated home window. We hope they get their house in order or else we will have to have some plans in place," he said.
