Virat Kohli to speak to press on July 29, confirms BCCI
The BCCI confirmed that Indian captain Virat Kohli will speak to the press before the Men in Blue’s departure to the United States and later on to the West Indies on Monday, in Mumbai. Initial reports had suggested that Kohli had done away the press duties because of a rift with Rohit Sharma.
Team India are scheduled to depart for the tour on Monday. India will be playing 2 T20Is in Florida from August 3 before heading to the Carribean for the remainder of the tour. Kohli's men are playing 3 T20Is, as many ODIs and 2 Tests against the West Indies.
However, rumours of rift within the team, mainly between the captain and vice-captain, Rohit Sharma, had surfaced post the World Cup semi-final exit.
Reports suggested that the team was split in two, with a few players lining up behind Sharma, and the others still backing Kohli. Several reports had also suggested that Sharma would be given the role of ODI captain.
The vice-captain's recent Instagram activity added fuel to fire. The India vice-captain who has not been following Kohli for quite some time now, apparently "unfollowed" Anushka Sharma, Kohli's wife, on Instagram last week.
Given these suggestions, it was widely reported that the team had done away with pre-departure press duties. However, the BCCI’s confirmation has put that to rest.
Although both Rohit and Kohli have not spoken anything on the issue, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) have spoken on the issue. The panel have said that the matter will be considered if the players themselves bring it up to its notice.
