ICC World Cup 2019 | Australia are playing well but they can be defeated, claims Mohammad Hafeez
Mohammad Hafeez is optimistic Pakistan can build momentum after the win against England as they gear up to face defending champions Australia in their next match at the World Cup. Hafeez acknowledged the no-result washout in the match against Sri Lanka which saw both teams get one point apiece.
Pakistan pulled off a major upset earlier this month as they ran out winners against ICC World Cup 2019 hosts and favorites - England at Trent Bridge. Sarfraz Ahmed & Co. secured a 14-run win to stun the home team in what could be a crucial turning point in Pakistan’s ongoing World Cup campaign.
After their match against Sri Lanka was called off due to bad weather conditions, Pakistan will now gear up to play a hurting Australia team who lost their last WC match to India by a margin of 36 runs. Pakistan veteran, Mohammad Hafeez, is confident that his team can build on the memorable win against England by defeating the defending champions in their next World Cup outing in England.
“The best thing about the England win was that everyone contributed. Even Hasan Ali, who didn’t get a wicket, but his last three overs were good and brought us back. When you play like that you get confidence and momentum.
“I think all 10 teams are beatable. If you look at England they were playing top cricket and people were thinking it would be hard to beat them. But all teams are beatable ... if you talk of our next opponent they are also playing very good cricket but they too can be defeated,” Hafeez told AFP on Sunday.
Pakistan, who started their 2019 World Cup campaign with a terrible loss against West Indies, were left in limbo due to the torrential rain in Bristol on Friday which led to a no-result washout in their match against Sri Lanka with both teams receiving a point each.
“Yes, that was frustrating but you cannot do much about the weather and now we have moved on. But I am sure when we play again we will put up the same game that we played against England,” Hafeez added.
