Yuvraj Singh’s feats will not go down if he doesn’t get a farewell match, says Sourav Ganguly

Yuvraj Singh has achieved enormous heights in his international cricket career that spanned for around two decades. He helped India clinch the maiden World T20 title back in 2007 after which, he was the man of the tournament in 2011 World Cup, which ended India’s 28-year long wait. Yuvraj represented India in 304 ODIs amassing 8701 runs and 111 wickets in his kitty. 

With him retiring from international cricket recently, the news of him getting a farewell started making rounds. Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly shed light on this subject and stated that he doesn’t believe in farewell games.  

“I don’t think so [deserves a retirement match]. I don’t believe in these retirement matches. If it falls in the course of your continuation as a player… of you being a part of the team… part of a normal system of Test or ODI… then fine,” Ganguly said in a Facebook Live for ICC World Cup 2019.

Yuvraj’s career has been filled with ups and downs, but he has evolved as a true champion whenever the chips were down. Ganguly further stated that the southpaw’s achievement will not go down in he doesn’t get a farewell game.   

“Whatever he has achieved as a player will not go down if he doesn’t get a farewell match. I don’t believe in it. He’s been a terrific player… a match winner. He should be very proud of what he has achieved,” Ganguly added.
