ICC World Cup 2019 | Virat Kohli fined 25% of match fee for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

The Indian cricket team maintained their unbeaten record at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 in England as they beat Afghanistan by a narrow margin of 11 runs on Saturday at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground. The 2011 World Cup winners were made to work hard for the win as Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi took the match to the very last over with an explosive innings down the order.

However, he was dismissed by Mohammed Shami as the latter ended the game by completing his hat-trick off the penultimate delivery of the match to bowl  Afghanistan out for 213. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined India captain Virat Kohli with 25% of his match fees after the cricketer was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for excessive appealing during yesterday’s game. Kohli admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Chris Broad of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

"Kohli was found to have breached Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "Excessive appealing during an International Match," an ICC release said, reported PTI.

In addition to that, the 30-year-old has also been reprimanded one demerit point that will be added to his disciplinary record. Kohli now has two demerit points after having got one demerit point during the Pretoria Test against South Africa on 15 January 2018.
