ICC World Cup 2019 | Jason Roy may recover in time for must-win clash against India

In the match against West Indies, Jason Roy had torn his hamstring while chasing a ball running towards the boundary around two weeks ago. He has since missed three games which has seen his team lose consecutive matches against Sri Lanka and Australia after having won the clash versus Afghanistan. 

Jason Roy has scored 215 runs in three innings he has played so far in the quadrennial tournament including a century and a half century at an excellent average of 71.67. Equally impressive is the fact that the runs came at a strike rate of 118.78.  

“Jason Roy is making good progress from his hamstring injury. He is being assessed every day. Yesterday he batted in the nets and was also running shuttles on the outfield,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement, reported Scroll.in.

England is currently fourth in the points table but is in fear of losing out its semifinal berth to Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, and to an extent even Pakistan. The next two matches are against India and New Zealand against whom the team has a poor record in recent World Cups. They need to win at least one of the two remaining games to qualify for the knockout stages, though they may even need to win both to qualify.

“A decision on whether he’ll be fit to resume against India will be made when we train on Friday and Saturday at Edgbaston,” the statement added.
