Virat Kohli has backed an underfire MS Dhoni and stated that the former Indian skipper’s experience has always come good for the team most times. The Indian skipper has also added that Dhoni knows exactly what he wants to do in the middle but sometimes, he ends up having an off day.

MS Dhoni’s 56-run innings was the hot topic of discussion among the fans and experts alike for the way he started it and took the longest time to cut loose. Even though Dhoni had a couple of good overs for him to score some quick runs, his strike rate still roamed around in the early 90s which means India lost a base to score 300 runs. However, Virat Kohli, as always, backed his predecessor and stated that Dhoni knows exactly what he wants to do in the middle.

“Dhoni knows exactly what he wants to do in the middle. When he has an off day here and there, everyone starts talking. We always back him. He has won us so many games. The best thing about having someone like him is when you need those 15-20 runs, he knows exactly how to get them. His experience, 8 out of 10 times has come good for us,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

One of the common arguments behind Dhoni being a regular in the Indian team despite his timely lows in the cricket career has been his keeping and the understanding of the game. At times, he becomes the default skipper for the spinners and Kohli added that Dhoni’s feedback have been of huge help for the team.

“He's such a keen understanding of the game. Always sends us feedback that you know 260 is a good score. He's a legend of the game. We all know that. Just hope he can continue,” the Indian No.3 added.
