ICC World Cup 2019 | Australia were too good for us, says Trent Boult

New Zealand speedster Trent Boult has stated that Australia sprung a perfect show and were simply too good for them. Australia registered an emphatic win and continued to dominate the points table with 14 points in their kitty, even Boult’s hat-trick wasn’t enough to stop the Kangaroos.

After an early collapse, Australia bounced back hard and posted a challenging total, which was convincingly defended by their bowlers. The defending champions have peaked at the right time and are oozing with confidence as a unit. Boult bagged a hat-trick and his side did well to keep Australia to a decent total, but after the loss, he admitted that the team was too good for them.

“Australia turn up for World Cups. They have a good record in them and they’re peaking nicely. They produced the complete performance and they were too good for us.  There are some quality sides here but it’s all about timing in my opinion and Australia are performing well, there’s only a couple of weeks left and they’re the ones to beat,” said Boult, reported PTI.

Mitchell Starc was the wrecker-in-chief as he bagged a fifer to put New Zealand on the back foot. he was the highest wicket-taker in the 2015 World Cup and is leading the wickets chart this time as well. Boult was all praise for his counterpart.

“He’s (Starc) six foot seven, bowls 157kph and swings it both ways! He’s a classy bowler. He was used very nicely with short spells to be aggressive. He’s had a stellar campaign so far,” Boult added.

Boult was delighted to have picked the hat-trick at the home of cricket but wished it had come in the first over as the impact would have been totally different. He further shed light on his game plan and was happy to see the stumps lit.

“It would have been nice if it was in the first over but any bowler dreams of getting three wickets in a row. To do it at the ‘Home of Cricket’ in front of a good crowd against Australia was pretty cool. It’s a pretty simple game plan. I wanted to disturb the woodwork and it was nice to see the stumps light up. It was a bit of entertainment for the crowd,” the Kiwi said.
