VIDEO | Nathan Coulter-Nile not given run-out despite his entire body being in the air

After the run-out rule change by the MCC and ICC, batsmen have been breathing easily and a lot of run-out options have died down drastically. Nathan Coulter-Nile was the beneficiary of the same as he was declared safe despite his entire body was in the air when the ball hit the stumps.

In 2017, the MCC came up with the law that, "If the bat (held by the hand) or another part of the batsman's person is grounded beyond the popping crease and this contact with the ground is subsequently lost when the wicket is put down, the batsman will be protected from being run out if he/she is running or diving and has continued forward momentum towards the stumps and beyond."

Today, Coulter-Nile took the benefit of the same. In the 43rd over of the Australian innings, Alex Carey flicked a delivery to mid-wicket where Ravindra Jadeja was stationed. It is always advised not to risk a single with the ball in Jadeja’s hands inside the circle, but Carey and Coulter-Nile decided to risk it anyway.

Jadeja accurately threw the ball to the striker’s end and that took the stumps instantly with Coulter-Nile's body completely in the air. However, his bat had already landed before the ball hit the stumps and as per the new rule, he was declared safe.
