Ajay Jadeja has stated that the Indian team must select KL Rahul for the upcoming World Cup. The former cricketer has also opined that if the team management wants to give him a go in the playing XI in the World Cup then he should be given a chance to play in the ongoing Australia series as well.

KL Rahul has impressed everyone with his recent batting performance after making a comeback to the Indian team. He was suspended from the Indian team after appearing on the controversial “Koffee with Karan” show and had missed the limited-overs series in Australia and New Zealand. However, he got back his lost form by scoring 50 and 47 in the two T20Is against Australia in February.

With the World Cup squad to be selected soon, former cricketer Jadeja is of the opinion that the Karnataka batsman will certainly be a part of the squad.

“KL will definitely go (for the World Cup) as he has scored well recently and the team is about to be selected. So, if you are not failing in matches that you get to play then you become a certainty,” Jadeja told Cricbuzz.

“It really doesn’t matter who is your 15th guy. The XI who actually walk on to the field matter and if we are clear about that then we are ok. It remains to be seen whether Rahul is going to play or not but if he is going to play then he should be played here as well.”

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the fringe players getting some game time during the ongoing five-match series against Australia. The Indian team fielded the same XI in the first two matches of the series while they are expected to do so in the third game as well with a target of winning the series.

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan has explained that the cricketers are anyways going to get game time and play matches during the upcoming IPL which will be played just before the World Cup.

“The game time that we are talking about, they will get during the IPL because all the players who are going to be a part of the world cup will be playing in IPL as well. So, in terms of staying in touch with the game and staying in touch with the pressure situations and playing a role, they are going to get enough practice,” Zaheer said in a video for Cricbuzz.

Success cannot be measured in numbers; it is rather the moments that define how successful one is. MS Dhoni might retire with the most number of stumpings to his name but his heart only will swell with pride for the fact that he has set a gold standard for everyone else with his wicket-keeping.
