JP Duminy to quit ODI cricket after World Cup
JP Duminy has announced that he will be retiring from ODIs after the 2019 Cricket World Cup which will be played in England later this year. The South African all-rounder, who had called it a day from Test cricket back in 2017, however, will be available for the Proteas in T20 Internationals.
Duminy will now be seen playing for the country only in T20Is as he has decided to quit the 50-over format after the end of the upcoming Cricket World Cup which will begin from May 30 in England. Duminy has represented the Proteas in 193 ODIs so far in his career and the ODI against Sri Lanka to be played tomorrow in Cape Town will be last home game.
"The last few months on the sidelines have given me an opportunity to re-assess my career going forward and to plot some goals I'd like to achieve in the future," Duminy was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"While a decision like this is never easy, I also feel that it is the right time for me to pass on the baton. I will still be available to play international and domestic T20 cricket, but would also like to invest more time towards my growing family, who are my number one priority. I have been privileged to live out my dream playing a sport I love, and I am forever grateful for the support I have received from my teammates, coaches, family, friends and fans throughout the years."
Apart from the all-rounder, South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir had also revealed that he would call it a day as far as ODIs are concerned after the 2019 Cricket World Cup. The tournament will be the third appearance for the duo, who had earlier represented the national side in the 2011 and 2015 editions of the global event.
