Prithvi Shaw has quashed rumors that indiscipline forced his premature return from the Australia tour as he claimed that no one told him he was not working hard enough. Shaw further specified that he had no problem in batting in the middle order for India in the limited overs format.

India Colts U-19 World Cup winning captain, Prithvi Shaw, enjoyed a successful debut for India when he played for the senior team in the home Test series win against Windies last year. However, Shaw was in the news for all the wrong reasons after having suffered an ankle injury during the warm-up game on the Australia tour.

The youngster had sustained the injury while fielding in a practice game and it was revealed that he would be available from the third Test onwards. Following that incident, the 19-year-old was sent back and rumors suggested that disciplinary issues were the reason behind it.

However, Shaw dismissed speculations that indiscipline forced his premature return from the Australia tour and insisted that it was only because of slow recovery from an ankle injury.

“These are rumours, so I will better let it go. No one told me anything about not working hard. I wanted to play but got injured. I thought I could play the third Test (in Melbourne) but then progress of recovery was slow.

“If you have had a look at my ankle, you would have known that it was really painful. Ankle wasn’t healing quickly and I had to return,” Prithvi said during an open media session of Delhi Capitals on Saturday.

Shaw, who scored a brilliant Test hundred on his debut, has predominantly flourished in the role of an opener across all three formats of the game. However, he revealed that he is not against the idea of batting in the middle order if that’s what the team requires.

“For India, it is all about whatever number they want me to bat and not the other way round. When I open the innings in limited overs, my mindset is different. Two men outside 30-yard circle, powerplay overs but when I am going down the order, it will obviously change. I watch a lot of experienced players. I watch if I go at No 5, what will I do there. It’s all about mindset, how you approach that situation,” Shaw added.
