Kane Williamson gave credit to the Royal Challengers Bangalore team who did enough to secure a four-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. SRH missed out on a chance to qualify for the playoffs and will now wait for the outcome of KKR’s match against Mumbai Indians today.

Royal Challengers Bangalore ended their IPL season on a positive note after Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh, both registered half-centuries in Saturday night’s win against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The home team chased down the 176-run target posted by Kane Williamson & Co. The 144-run stand by the duo is now the highest fourth-wicket partnership in IPL history as RCB ended the season on a winning note.

Losing captain, Williamson said that he felt SRH were short of 10-15 runs but credited RCB batters for sticking around while keeping up the pressure and chase down the target.

“Every time you turn up you like an element of control. At the halfway stage it felt like we set a competitive total. Credit to Bangalore for the way they stuck out and kept coming hard at us. Naturally, when you take your opportunities it does help. But that is a game of cricket. It would've been nice to get 10-15 runs in the first innings, but credit to Bangalore for keeping up the pressure,” said Williamson in the post-match presentation.

SRH’s fate in the competition will be decided by the result between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians on Sunday. If KKR win then they will qualify for the playoffs and SRH will finish fifth in the points table. However, if KKR taste defeat then it will be SRH, who will qualify for the playoffs given their superior net run-rate.

“I suppose there are a number of fine lines, our last two matches could've gone either way but we ended up on the wrong side. But that's T20 cricket for you. It is one of those things now, we have to sit and wait, things are not in control which is a shame. Fingers crossed, let's see how it goes tomorrow,” Williamson added.
