IPL 2019 | It’s a funny tournament, any team can beat anyone on a day, says Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has said that the Indian Premier League is a funny tournament where any team can beat anyone on a given day. MI won their last league game against KKR to finish as table-toppers and will now face Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1.

Rohit Sharma is a happy man after his side finished the league stage at the top with 18 points in their kitty and a much-better net run-rate than others. T20 is a format of glorious uncertainties and IPL has a reputation of being extremely uncertain. Rohit feels that the tournament is very funny where all the teams stand an equal chance and can create an upset on a given day.

“IPL is a funny tournament, any team can beat the other on a day and we want to take few tiny steps,” Rohit said, reported TimesNow.

MI players have peaked at the business end of the tournament, which can be threatening for other sides. Rohit has also asserted that players are gaining momentum, which has been the scenario on all the three occasions when MI lifted the trophy.

“It is something we know about the IPL that the business end matters, we always come back well in the second half of this tournament. In all the three trophies that we’ve won, the boys have picked themselves up in the business end,” Rohit said.

MI have done well this season and Rohit accredits team’s effort on a whole and not individuals for it. Rohit has also said that the team is not heavily reliant on one or two individuals and players have stepped up on different occasions.

“It was the team effort that pleased me the most. We don’t depend on a few individuals to take us through, there are a lot of characters who put their hand up and took us through,” the captain said.

Rohit’s willow has not fired this season, but he managed to score his second fifty of the season last night, which should infuse some confidence in him. Rohit further spoke how unfortunate he was as his daughter was fast asleep while her daddy reached the landmark. On a personal note, he said, “My daughter has been coming here every day to watch me play, but I didn’t get a lot of runs earlier. It was nice to get some runs today, but she was sleeping.”

Mumbai Indians will take on Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday in Chennai.
