Mohammad Azharuddin has stated that India can go all the way in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup which will start on May 30 in England & Wales. Azharuddin has also backed Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli to come back to his clinical best after a disappointing season in the IPL.

Despite his controversial past with the Indian cricket team, Azharuddin is regarded as one of the most successful captains to have led the Indian team. The cricketer-turned-politician has claimed that the current Indian team should go all the way in the upcoming 2019 ICC ODI World Cup which is slated to be held in England & Wales May 30 onwards.

“India have a very good chance (in the World Cup) because we have got a very balanced side. We have got good bowlers, good batsmen and then our fielding is very good (and has) improved a lot over a period of time. I would be disappointed if India doesn’t win the World Cup and I’m hoping that we will bring the Cup,” Azharuddin recently said a PTI interview.

Azharuddin, who has represented India in 99 Test matches across a distinguished career, does not seem to be too concerned about Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s poor run in the IPL who ended their campaign at the bottom of the table.

“Ups and downs happen in life. But looking at his records and statistics, there is no need to worry. I feel he (Kohli) would have saved his best for the World Cup,” said the 56-year old former batsman who captained India in three World Cups in 1992, 1996 and 1999.
