Ethics Officer dismisses conflict of interest case against Sachin Tendulkar

Tendulkar entered into an unwarranted controversy when MPCA member Sanjeev Gupta filed a complaint stating the dual roles Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, who were members of the CAC and also served as mentors for Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, is against the policy of the BCCI. Although both Tendulkar and Laxman, in their rebuttals, reasoned that the BCCI never clarified the scope of their roles as CAC members, despite repeated attempts to seek clarification, the BCCI Ethics Officer kept their case in the “tractable” category.

However, that irritated Tendulkar as he issued a statement through his legal counsel that he won't be part of any committee of the BCCI, including the Cricket Advisory Committee, unless furnished with the terms of reference and tenure of his appointment. After getting Tendulkar’s statement, DK Jain dismissed the conflict of interest allegations.

"Once the BCCI furnished the terms of reference and tenure, he will decide on the course of his participation in the same. Mr. Tendulkar doesn't consider himself to be part of any Cricket Advisory Committee and will not act as such. In consequence, the present complaint doesn't survive for adjudication... resultantly, the present complaint is rendered infructuous and is disposed of, as such,” Jain said in his statement.

"Without prejudice to his rights and contentions in the present proceeding, Mr. Sachin Tendulkar wishes to reiterate that he has been requesting BCCI since the inception of the CAC that terms of reference and his tenure is furnished to him," read a statement from Tendulkar's legal counsel.

"He has requested this repeatedly and several times over the years including as recently as on 7.12.2018. He is now left with no other choice but to communicate to BCCI that until and unless the BCCI furnishes the terms of reference and tenure of his appointment in the CAC, he has decided not be part of any committee of the BCCI including the CAC."

Tendulkar, Laxman and Sourav Ganguly were part of CAC that picked Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the national team in July 2017 and previously, they sat together for the same role as they selected Anil Kumble as the coach of the Indian side after a rigorous process.
