Indian team's Head Coach Ravi Shastri congratulated Sourav Ganguly on being elected as the new BCCI President. The duo has previously engaged in many controversies and verbal spats including the one where Ganguly took a dig at Shastri for interviewing for the Head Coach position from Thailand.

As soon as Sourav Ganguly was elected as the new BCCI President, questions started looming over Ravi Shastri's future as the two have had many verbal spats in the recent past. But the Indian team's head coach rather gracefully congratulated Ganguly for his new stint and wished him all the good luck.

"My heartiest congratulations to Sourav for taking over as the BCCI President," Shastri said to TOI.

"His appointment is an indication that Indian cricket is moving in the right direction," he further added.

Ganguly had accused Shastri of not being present in person for the Head Coach interview and deemed it to be insulting towards the CoA. Ganguly and Shastri were also involved in many other banters like the one where Shastri said that the current Indian team is the best touring side of the last fifteen years, indirectly demeaning the feat that Ganguly's team had achieved. However, on professional level, both continue to respect each other and Shastri believes that Ganguly's appointment has brought a good sign as he is someone who has already worked in this administration and has played for India.

"When someone like him — who already dipped his feet into cricket administration four or five years ago — takes over as president of the BCCI, it’s a win-win for Indian cricket," he said.

BCCI lately has had a very bad image and was being seen as a board run by politicians and bureaucrats. But Shastri believes that Ganguly will bring the board back to where it once was and will be extremely successful in his tenure.

"These are difficult times for the Board and there’s a lot of work to do to bring BCCI back on the path of glory. I wish him all the best in his stint.," he concluded.

Interesting times lie ahead as the Ganguly-Shastri partnership promises to srping out more sparks in future.
