CPL 2019 | Andre Russell cleared of serious injury after blow to head

The Jamaica Tallawahs all-rounder, while attempting to pull a short ball by St Lucia Zouks paceman Hardus Viljoen, was struck on the right side of the neck which eventually resulted in him ending up leaving the field on a stretcher in a neck brace. There were serious doubts about his health but CPL organisers said the 31-year-old had been cleared by scans at hospital.

"Under the doctor's advice he has headed back to the team hotel with his wife and a member of the Tallawahs medical team to rest and recover," the league said on Twitter.

There have been increased fears among the spectators after Phillip Hughes died after being struck with a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match in Sydney in 2014. Even in the ongoing Ashes, Steve Smith was floored by a Jofra Archer bouncer in the second test at Lord's. Smith returned to bat after a concussion test but was later ruled out of the third match at Headingley and cricket fans breathed a sigh of relief after the update from CPL organisers.
