My playing days are truly over, says Marcus Trescothick

Former England cricketer Marcus Trescothick is ready to hang his boots after a long and admirable career that spans over 26 years with Somerset. After being rested for the game against Essex, a 43-year-old knew that it's time to call time on his first-class career that started way back in 1993.

The veteran batsman Trescothick is not a part of the playing XI of Somerset for the game against Essex and after vocalizing his decision to retire it is apparent that he'd leave the game serving drinks happily for his teammates. Probably not a fitting farewell for a such a giant of the game, but Trescothick has made up his mind.

"I'd love to just run out there one more time," Trescothick was quoted as saying by cricbuzz, "with the shirt on and the hat on and do it that way."

The former England opener will finish with his long and glorious  FC career with 40,000 runs and 96 centuries across formats. The left-handed opener, played 123 ODIs for England between 2000 and 2006, scoring 4335 runs including 12 centuries. As a right-arm medium pacer, Trescothick has an FC hattrick as well.  Trescothick also had an average of 43.79 in Tests where he played 76 matches for 5825 runs.

"I'm well and truly over playing," said the Somerset legend. "I've had enough of going out there and working out how to try to bat."

Trescothick ends his career with a whopping 26234 runs from 391 first-class matches with 66 centuries, second only to Harold Gimblett, the only man to score more first-class runs than Trescothick for Somerset.
