Ethics officer serves conflict notice to Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee

After being inducted into the BCCI as an ad-hoc committee member to select the head coach of the Indian women’s team, Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shantha Rangaswamy were entrusted with the responsibility of selecting India’s men's cricket team head coach too, which they did by picking Ravi Shastri for the position.

However, Sanjeev Gupta, a life member of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, who has been at the forefront of the unveiling conflict of interest cases lately, has pointed out that all three CAC members have multiple conflicts. While Kapil is part of the steering committee on the newly-formed, BCCI-funded Indian Cricketers' Association (ICA) and is one of its directors, his role as an expert for Indian television channels puts him in a conflict in Gupta’s allegations.

Anshuman Gaekwad also works as a pundit on TV while being a part of the BCCI's Member Affiliation Committee, which grants membership to state associations. Apart from that, Gaekwad is also a part of the ICA's steering group and Shantha Rangaswamy is also an ICA director.

While Gupta had brought similar charges against the members of the previous CAC for carrying out multiple roles, he had sent his complaint to Justice Jain immediately after the CoA had appointed Kapil, Gaekwad and Rangaswamy as the CAC to shortlist and appoint a head coach for the Indian men's team.
