IND vs AUS | Was expecting a real dogfight, didn't expect win to come that quick, expresses Tim Paine
Australian skipper Tim Paine was a happy man after his team won the Adelaide Test and asserted that he expected a dog fight than a win in such a quick time. Paine was also adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant half-century yesterday that helped Australia make 191 after they were 5/79.
Going into the third innings with a lead of more than 50, not many expected India to lose the game on day 3 itself. But, it was made possible after Pat Cummins led the Aussie onslaught and helped the hosts reduce India to 19 for 6 taking wickets of Shaw, Bumrah, Pujara and Kohli. There was no respite for the tourists after that they were hit by Josh Hazlewood-tsunami as he took five wickets for eight runs not letting the Indian lower-middle-order add runs on the board as India ended with 9/36.
It all resulted in Australia chasing less than 100 runs which they did easily with Joe Burns returning back to form as he made an unbeaten 51 off just 63. Australian captain Tim Paine after the win expressed his happiness over the win and stated that he didn't expect the game to finish so soon. He also added that it was great to see Burns get runs under his belt.
"No, not really. Said in the media both these attacks have the ability to take quick wickets. Didn't expect it to come that quick. Was expecting a real dogfight. To hang in, give our bowlers a chance, and then turn up and start the day the way we did. Full credit to our bowling attack again. Nice to get off to a good start. Chuffed with the way we bowled in this Test. Still a bit of work to do with our batting. Burns is a really important part of our team. All cricketers know how hard it is to come out of a rut like that," Paine said in the post-match presentation.
The skipper was also given the Man of the Match award for his brilliant 73* which helped Australia make 191 after they were 79 for 5 at one stage in the first innings. India's problems will only get bigger as Virat Kohli will be leaving for India now to be back home while the tourists are still sweating on the fitness of Mohammed Shami. Both the sides will clash in MCG next in boxing day Test.
