According to the latest reports, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) are anticipating the ICC’s announcement on the postponement of the T20 World Cup to happen on Monday. The BCCI is supposed to have a virtual meeting with the governing council on July 21 regarding the same.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, all cricket was either indefinitely postponed or cancelled globally in mid-March. Meanwhile, the 13th edition of the IPL , which was originally scheduled to begin on March 29, was pushed until further notice while the fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia, is still hanging by a slender thread.

In this regard, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting with the BCCI, on Monday, so that the latter can make plans for a delayed season of the IPL. Reports came up stating that the 2020 edition of the marquee T20 league could be held in UAE and now, it is being speculated that the BCCI are expecting the ICC to make an official announcement on the postponement of the 2020 edition of the World T20, on Monday.

"The first step was postponement of Asia Cup, which has happened. We can only start to move ahead with our plans after the ICC announces the postponement (of T20 World Cup). They have been sitting on the decision even after Cricket Australia said that they are not too keen on hosting the event," a BCCI Apex Council member told PTI.

"The ICC couldn't have just postponed (the T20 World Cup) immediately, as initially the top ministers of the Australian government expressed keenness to host," said another source familiar with the functioning of the ICC, as quoted by TOI.

As per the existing schedule, the World T20 is scheduled to kick off on October 18 but that, now, looks highly unlikely.
