Pakistan are sure to miss the services of Khushdil Shah for the first Test as a fractured thumb sustained during the training session in Derby resulted in the all-rounder being ruled out for three weeks. However, it wouldn’t hurt the team’s preparations a lot for Shah was majorly a T20 player.

With the Pakistan side currently playing an Intrasquad practise match in Derby’s County Ground, there has been a body blow for the side with all-rounder Khushdil Shah suffering a thumb injury and has been ruled out of the side for at least three weeks. The injury occurred to him while batting in the nets on Saturday but fortunately for him, there is no injury to the nail bed.

"As the nail is intact and there is no injury to the nail bed, the orthopaedic surgeon, team physician and team physiotherapist expect Khushdil to resume physical training by the end of the next week," the PCB press release said, reported Cricbuzz.

Khushdil, who made his international debut against Australia last year with a T20, was not a part of the intra-squad game and will not take part in the second four-day game from July 24-27. That is a matter of cheer for the Pakistan side that he would most certainly be fit for the T20I series in Old Trafford starting on August 28.

PCB also suffered an injury scare when Abid Ali suffered a blow to his helmet while fielding at short leg, collapsing to his knees and then rolling over onto his back. However, an on-field treatment meant he was able to sit unaided on a stretcher.
